Social Engagement
The Charles Vögele Group sees itself as an active part of society and takes its social responsibility seriously - beyond its core business. The company supports the Foundation «Stiftung Zuversicht für Kinder Schweiz» which campaigns for children in need.
Helping children in Kyrgyzstan
The Foundation’s main project is located in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. The country is still urgently dependent on international aid after the collapse of the Soviet Union while it transistions to a market economy. Given the weak economic power, 34 percent of the population live below the poverty line. This makes Kyrgyzstan one of the poorest countries in the world, under which the children suffer most of all. No other country in the world has so many children born with a cleft lip, jaw and palate.
Improving quality of life
That is why the Foundation has built a treatment centre for children with cleft lip, jaw and palate in the Kyrgyz captial Bishkek. This means that all new cases can be operated on locally in adherence to European standards, and the affected children are provided with follow-up support until adulthood. Thanks to the Foundation’s support and the donations from Charles Vögele a second treatment centre is currently being built in the south of the country. Without proper treatment, the children suffer throughout their lives from hearing problems, speaking difficulties or misaligned jaws and dental arches. In addition, sufferers are often marginalised by society.
By working with the Foundation «Stiftung Zuversicht für Kinder Schweiz», Charles Vögele makes a contribution to improving the quality of life of these children and their families.
